9月1日に初めてコロナにかかった。最初は喉が痛くて、翌日には咳が出て、熱が出た、といっても高熱ではなく、37.2度くらい。風邪をひいたのだと思ったが、その翌日にコロナとインフルの検査をしたところ、コロナにかかっていることがわかった。過去5年間ずっと感染しないように気をつけてきたので、とてもショックだった。幸い、症状はそれほど重くなく、すぐに回復した。熱は翌日には下がり、7日までには完治した。というわけで、今後のサブウェイはコロナがもう少し落ち着いてからにしようと思う。コロナは終わったわけじゃないから、みなさんも、気をつけて。 I got COVID-19 for the first time on September 1st. At first, my throat hurt, and the next day I started coughing and had a fever—not very high, just around 37.2 degrees. I thought I had caught a cold, but the following day I tested for both COVID and the flu. That’s when I found out I had COVID. I was so shocked because I’d been cautious for the past five years, trying not to get it. Luckily, The symptoms weren't that serious and I recovered quickly. The fever went away the next day, and by the 7th, I had fully recovered. As a consequence, I will put off my next subway performance until the COVID situation gets better. Every stay safe, COVID ain't over yet!

I found this picture of Allen Ginsberg in Kyoto from June 1963. At first, I didn’t know the exact location, but my friend told me that the building behind Allen is a restaurant called Kikusui. Now I know exactly where it was taken, he is standing at the intersection of Shijo Street and Kiyamachi Street. Today, I went there and took a picture. After 62 years, it’s amazing that the view hasn’t changed much, the same Kikusui restaurant, the same mountain, the same arcade. I really want to take a picture of myself there sometime. 1963年6月に京都で撮影されたアレン・ギンズバーグの写真を見つけた。最初、正確な場所がわからなかったが、友人が、アレンのうしろに写っている建物は「菊水」というレストランだと教えてくれた。おかげで、写真が撮られた場所が正確にわかった。彼は四条通と木屋町通の交差点に立っている。今日、そこへ行って写真を撮ってきた。62年経った今も景色はほとんど変わっていないのが驚きだ、同じ菊水レストラン、同じ山、同じアーケード。いつか自分もそこで写真を撮りたいと思う。

日曜日にサブウェイパフォーマンスでライブをしてきた。今回はセットリストを作らず、歌詞カードだけ持っていってその場で曲を選んだ。自分の曲は一切やらず、カバー曲だけをやった。でも、曲選びにかなりの時間を使ったし、ライブの流れを良くするためにもセットリストは作るべきだと思った。以下が演奏した曲たち。 次のサブウェイパフォーマンスは９月７日（日）14時から15時です。また、今までやってない違う曲をやる予定です。是非お越しください。 A change is gonna come Gee, baby, ain't I good to you Michelle All Of Me Susie Q St. Louis Blues Amado Mio 上を向いて歩こう The Dock Of The Bay Don't Let Me down（途中でやめた） Yesterday Wild Horses Dead Flowers Sweet Home 京都（アンコール） I played a subway gig on Sunday. This time, I didn’t make a setlist, I just brought lyric sheets and chose the songs on the spot. Also, I didn’t play any of my own songs, only cover songs. After thinking it over, I realized I should prepare a setlist for the next gig to keep things flowing smoothly, since I spent too much time deciding which songs to play. Here’s the list of songs I performed. My next subway gig is on Sunday, September 7th. I’m going to play songs I’ve never performed before.

娘と拾得の飛び入りライブに行ってきた。マイ・ガール、スリル・イズ・ゴーン、サティスファクションを演奏してきた。最初の二曲を鍵盤ハーモニカ、最後は珈琲缶ドラムを演奏した。ピアノに関しては、娘には「マイガール」では白鍵だけを、「スリル・イズ・ゴーン」では黒鍵だけを使って弾いてと教えただけ。だからすべて、あの子の音楽センスでアドリブで演奏している。とても楽しかった。娘は夏休みの宿題の絵日記にこの日の出来事を書いた。 My daughter and I went to an open mic at Jittoku. We played three songs: "My Girl," "The Thrill Is Gone," and "Satisfaction." She played the melodion on the first two songs and the drums on the last one. I didn’t teach her much about how to play the piano—I just told her to play only the white keys for "My Girl," and only the black keys for "The Thrill Is Gone." So she played both songs ad-lib, guided by her musical sense. We had a great time there, and she wrote a picture diary about the event for her summer vacation homework.

次のサブウェイパフォーマンスは8月3日、午後2時から3時です。今後は、毎回来てくれるお客さんに楽しんでもらえるように毎回違う曲をやるつもりだ。大変やけど常連のお客さんのためにやってみたい、そして自分のためにも。 The next subway gig is on August 3rd, from 2 PM to 3 PM. From now on, I'm going to play songs I haven't performed at previous gigs, so the audience will hear an entirely new set list every month. It's a challenge for me, but I'm willing to do it for those who come to my gigs regularly, and for myself as well.
